iScam

broken-iphone.jpgI am actually surprised to see ipod and iphone topping the ebay trends list, as I would never consider buying either on ebay.  You might as well try out a few Nigerian scams as well as bid on a used ipod on ebay.  If you are luck enough to not get a broken or malfunctioning gadget, you still face the impostor items.  Some may describe the search results as a mine field, yet iphone tops the list.  I guess you always have the protection of the ebay feedback system, but really, is there really a huge market for used cell phones?  I would always want to guarantee that I at least have a manufacturers warantee on such a pricey and problem-prone electronic device.

Aptera, world’s ugliest future car

aptera-car.jpgI don’t know if the buzz is new or old, but this is the first time I’ve seen this Aptera vehicle. Without exploring their site at all, I can proclaim that this is certainly the ugliest futuristic car ever envisioned. Who in their right mind would want to reserve one of these? I can only image that this is some sort of big hoax, to weed out the crazy granola hippies who would take an electric car, no matter how ugly and “modern” it is. If I ever see an aptera driving around town, I will be very tempted to ram them with my moderate MPG fossil-fuel-powered car.

I won’t say that I have anything against hybrids or electric cars, actually I quite like the concept of the technology, but I certainly can’t endorse something so terribly painful to look at as the aptera - I mean, The Jetson’s cars may have been more appealing than these.

Tell me what you think.

iupui

iupui.jpgIUPUI - Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis. What a mouthful. Not only is the full name of the university impossible to say on your first try, the acronym flows off of the tongue as well as the child’s rhyme about Peter Piper. Who knows why it’s a top 7 trend today, as I imagine at least 53% of people type the acronym incorrectly on their first search.  Maybe they are going for some sort of worst university acronym world record?

Anyway, ignoring the difficult name of this #7 search term - I can find no clues as to why it is a popular search this evening, leaving me to guess. I can only conclude that this trend is a result of pure coincidence, with a large number of people slamming their heads, hands, and faces into their keyboards, sending google a garbled query that just happened to say iupui. I might be wrong, I don’t know.

TMAU, and a fish with hands!

Mineral — Tags: , , — Kevin @ 10:15 pm

fish-with-hands1.jpgI rolled into this one thinking it would be a repeat of the TMTH from the other night, but I was thankfully wrong.  Actually, I am not sure that thankfully is the right word…  The description for TMAU might just actually be TMTH.  From ABC News, “The presence of volatile trimethyl-amine (TMA) in sweat is the critical determinant, because it creates a pungent odor that emanates from the skin and surrounds the patient in an unpleasant aura.”

Definitely sounds kinda gross.  Why is the Internet searching for TMAU?  IDK.  Damn texting abbreviations.  Anyway, I once again suspect TV as the culprit here - maybe one of those haughty Friday night news magazine TV shows did a special on people who smell like fish.  Must be a slow week for news.

You might be asking, why the fish with hands for a graphic? First, he’s cool.  Second, he’s one of the first results searching for “fish” on google images, sorry, I’m lazy.

Prevage

prevage.jpgI was wrong, it’s not a word that I haven’t heard of, it’s a product!  I am starting to think that most of what’s found on google trends is dictated by what people watch on TV - I imagine this skin care product must be in heavy commercial rotation or something.  Either that, or this is the one in a million ‘anti-aging treatment’ that actually works, and the world has caught on.  Either way, the woman on their homepage looks creepy, and I would advise anyone interested in this product to steer clear, based solely on what it appears to have done to her skin.

A note to the manufacturers of prevage: You need a new homepage pic, and a new product name. ‘Prevage’ looks too much like ‘Pervage’, which isn’t a word either, but brings to mind perverts, and that’s not something you want associated with your product.  Believe me, you’ll thank me later.
